John Christopher Depp II was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963. He’s the son of a waitress and a civil engineer who divorced when Johnny was sixteen. He’s part German, Irish, French, and Cherokee. Johnny became a teen idol in the 1980’s with his successful role in Fox TV’s popular 21 Jump Street.

Johnny played guitar in garage bands as a teen and intended to make music his career as an adult. His first wife, a make-up artist in Los Angeles, introduced him to Nicholas Cage, who urged him to become an actor and arranged a meeting with his agent. (Thank you, Nicholas!) Depp’s debut film role came in 1984 with Nightmare on Elm Street. Johnny played the heroine’s boyfriend and one of Freddie Kruger’s murder victims.

Johnny Depp’s bad boy image is not entirely an affectation.

His thirteen tattoos represent important people and emotional events in his life, including the birth of his daughter. He and his domestic partner, Vanessa Paradis, grow grapes and make wine in their vineyard in France, where they reside.

Johnny Depp modeled his break-out role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of The Caribbean after Rolling Stone’s guitarist Keith Richards.

To date, he and close friend Tim Burton have made seven films together. Johnny Depp plays The Mad Hatter in the upcoming Burton film Alice in Wonderland. Depp has signed-on to play Barnabas Collins in the film version of the popular Sixties soap Dark Shadows. It’s said that Johnny was a huge fan of the original show and is excited about the remake.

Actor, director, humanitarian, father–and CLASSIC HUNK! I think Johnny Depp is the perfect choice for this August column. The man is HAWT! Do we agree?
