Good Spelling Not Necessary

Another author at Ellora’s Cave, Daisy Dexter Dobbs, posted the following on her blog.  I thought it was so cool I decided to post it here.

From Cambridge University:

New Year, New Books to Write

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I love the holidays, but am equally glad when they’re over. While others complain of post-holiday blues, I’m eager to shove the Christmas decorations back into the attic and embrace the new year.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the season as much as anyone, but when it’s done I feel like a huge cosmic pause button has been released so that normal life may resume. From Thanksgiving to the New Year our calendars are cluttered with holiday demands. Once January 2nd rolls around we can shake off the holiday glitter and get back to the business of our everyday lives.

And I like my life as an author! It’s time to get back to work without distractions. The sequel to my paranormal romance DESERT FEVER is done and I have new projects to begin.

Darn That Borders Books!

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Darn that Borders Books! They emailed me a 40% off coupon for any item in the store and the offer is burning a hole in my hard drive. This is their best coupon offer of the year. Despite the fact that my To Be Read pile has become a TBR ROOM, I just can’t resist that freaking 40% off deal on a new book. I want one or two or more. Loving books is like eating potato chips–you just can’t stop the cravings.

But which book should I buy with my coupon? I love so many authors. Should I try someone new or buy the next book in a series I’m following? Decisions, decisions.

Guess I’ll head to the mall, have some lunch, browse and shop at Borders, and then follow up with a mocha frappacino at Starbucks. Sounds like the perfect way to spend the day before Christmas Eve.

I’m always open to reading new authors, so if you have recommendations, please list them in the comments section.

Santa Claus Touches My Soul

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

After all this time, I still love Santa Claus.

The Saturday before Christmas each year, our local volunteer fire company drives Santa Claus through our community on top of a big yellow truck, accompanied by volunteer firefighters dressed in full uniform. As they drive past our homes with the siren blaring, waving a hearty Merry Christmas!, I’m compelled to run outside to wave back, wearing my biggest smile.

Though I know perfectly well that Santa is really volunteer firefighter Joe from the neighborhood, the annual gift to our community makes me feel…happy. Though it’s been many years since I was a child, and my own children are almost grown, Santa Claus still has the power to touch my soul. That’s a gift I hope I never lose, no matter what my age or circumstance.

Does Santa Claus and the spirit of Chrismas still move you?  Please share how.

CLASSIC HUNKS: Paul McCartney

“Simply having a wonderful Christmas time…”

James Paul McCartney is a living legend whose talent brought him from humble beginnings to superstardom. He was born June 18, 1942, in Liverpool, England to James and Mary McCartney. Today, Paul’s childhood home at 20 Forthlin Road remains a bustling tourist attraction.

When I was thirteen I used to dream I’d marry Paul one day. As decades passed, my youthful crush developed into admiration for his talent, good looks, and dedication to family. According to Wikipedia Paul McCartney is “listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history.”

When I was a young reporter in Jamaica, West Indies, Paul and Linda McCartney and their children liked to visit a private Montego Bay resort called Round Hill Hotel near my home. It was there Paul is said to have written the song “Ebony and Ivory.” I longed to interview Paul while he visited Jamaica, but was never offered the assignment. I was so young and green I would likely have been terrified to speak to him, so it’s probably just as well.

I think Paul McCartney’s 2007 album Memory Almost Full is his best.

Paul McCartney is my choice for December’s CLASSIC HUNK title. At age 66, Paul still ROCKS!

December Moon the Brightest!

Friday, December 12th, 2008

The December Cold Moon will rise tonight at sunset as the biggest, brightest full moon in fifteen years. The moon will be 30% brighter and 14% larger than other 2008 full moons, as an event called perigee occurs, when the earth and moon move as close as possible to one another.

“Typically we don’t have the full moon phase and perigee coinciding at the same time, so that makes this event particularly special,” said Ed Krupp, director of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California.

Watch the amazing full moon rise tonight with a cool glass of wine, a warm blanket, and someone you love. What could be more romantic than a kiss beneath the brightest full moon we’ll ever see, shining down on us during the holiday season? The December full moon will be an amazing sight, and a gift for everyone in the world to enjoy.

Never Too Old for Santa’s Lap

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I spent the afternoon Christmas shopping and taking advantage of the enticing holiday sales. Prices were so low I was able to buy a few extra gifts for each family member–which put a big smile on my face.

The sight of Santa Claus made me feel wistful as I strolled through the mall. I remembered the days when I waited for what seemed like hours to tell Santa what I wanted for Christmas.

When I returned home from shopping and opened my email, aspiring author Carla K. had sent me a serendipitous Santa Claus message. Below are the contents of her note. (Guess I’ll never live down my penchant for posting beefcake on my blog.)  Or maybe Carla knows a holiday secret she simply wanted to share: We’re never too old to want to sit on Santa’s lap. This is a very different Santa Claus from the one I remember! Enjoy!
