GOOGLE INVADES YOUR HOME AND PRIVACY

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

An author friend posted a warning on my local writers’ group chat loop about a feature Google offers that I think is worth repeating, and I hope readers will take seriously. This is not a hoax. Check it out as soon as you finish reading this message and see for yourself.

Google has created a search program that enables anyone to discover your full name, address, AND A MAP TO YOUR HOUSE simply by typing your home phone number into the search bar at www.google.com/  I entered my home phone number and, sure enough, all of my personal listing information with a map to my house popped up. My blood ran cold, let me tell you. If this isn’t an invasion of privacy I don’t know what is.

If you have an unlisted home telephone number or use a cell phone as your primary means of communication you probably don’t need to worry. But if your home phone number is listed in the telephone directory, and if you and your children give out your home number for routine calls, Google probably has your home information listed on their search engine.

By typing in your telephone number on the Google search bar using dashes to separate the numbers (ie:)123-457-7890 and clicking Search, your personal home information with a map to your address will appear.

To block your Google listing after it loads, simply click on your telephone number and fill out the REMOVE form. It took Google 48 hours to remove my listing. My mind rests a little easier now, though I’ve come to the realization that privacy on the Internet is an oxymoron. A sad truth.

SNOW MOON THANKSGIVING

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

I see the moon
And the moon sees me.
Blessed be the moon
and blessed be me!

November is the month of the Snow Moon. The November full moon has also been called Fog Moon due to the month’s predominant weather pattern, and the Beaver Moon in American backwoods tradition. The Celts called this the time of beginnings and endings.

The word ‘November’ is thought to be derived from the Latin word novem which means nine–the ninth month on the ancient Roman calendar.  Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007, is also the date the astrological calendar moves into the sign of Sagittarius, the zodiac’s ninth house.

The beautiful, full Snow Moon will arrive Saturday, November 24, 2007.

Though the moon may look full on America’s Thanksgiving Day, there will actually be a Waxing Gibbous moon in the sky. This will last two days before the full Snow Moon appears, followed by a Waning Gibbous moon for two days after.

There are theories that people tend to gain or lose weight according to moon cycles, so watch out for that extra helping of Thanksgiving turkey with stuffing and double slices of pumpkin pie!

As we prepare for winter’s cold and snow, the ancients taught that we should strengthen our communication with the divine. What a perfect time to give thanks for our families, friends, livelihoods, and the ways they enrich our lives as we gather together.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Below, a beautiful phases of the moon illustration shows us the full moon preceded and followed by the Gibbous moon. Courtesy of Wikipedia.

Here is a delicious moon recipe from Retro-Food.com to complete your Thanksgiving meal.

Moon Fruit Pie

Note from Retro-Food.com: My family makes this pie for Thanksgiving, but really, I could probably eat it every day. I use about half the sugar the recipe calls for and don’t peel the apples.

Double crust pastry for 9-inch pie
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups (3 med.) peeled and thinly sliced apples
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, ground
1 cup dried apricots, ground
milk
sugar

Oven 375 degrees F.
In large mixing bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg; stir in apples, cranberries and apricots. Turn into 9-inch pastry lined pie pan.

Roll out remaining dough; cut slits for escape of steam. Moisten rim of bottom crust. Place top crust over filling. Fold edge under bottom crust, pressing to seal. Flute edge. Brush top with milk; sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 for 45 to 50 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

                                  INTIMATE ART by Adele Dubois

Since every man from puberty to the nursing home in Hartsville worships Legs Anderson, and every woman between the ages of birth and death loves Jack Harris, Legs’s willingness to keep Jack at bay is Hartsville’s most bemusing mystery.

That and the fact that Jack Harris is the only person in town who doesn’t believe the Anderson house is haunted.

But Legs believes. And as long as her aunt’s ghost looms in the master bedroom of the house she inherits, Jack can’t spend the night. Aunt Ada had an ironclad rule: No men allowed.

Especially Harris men.

Ada had made it her mission to keep Legs and Jack apart until the day she died. Now the meddling old prude interferes from the grave.

Jack has a plan involving paint, some brushes, and exotic ingenuity to chase Ada’s ghost from the house. Can he banish her and claim the woman he loves? Or will Aunt Ada conjure new surprises of her own?

Antonio Alvares is riding his Harley on his way to start his FBI training and to watch his younger brother graduate from the Naval Academy when he sees the most sensual and sexy long haired woman he has ever seen.

Lisa Gibson is on her way to the Naval Academy to break up with her cheating boyfriend when a sexy man riding a Harley catches her eye. She is intrigued by this handsome Latino man and agrees to meet him for a drink in the bar down the street. On impulse Lisa decides to flash him her chest as he drives away. Stunned Antonio jumps the curb, dumping his Harley and giving himself a nice goose egg to go with his humiliation. But it only leads to more arousal and heat between them. A chance meeting leads them to an unbridled romp in a hotel room. Could it really lead to a meaningful relationship? All that is stopping their runaway libido is Lisa’s ex-boyfriend. He will do anything to keep Lisa on his long list of women. Will it work for Antonio and Lisa or will lies keep them apart?

Motorcycle Heat is just that: pure unadulterated heat. The chemistry between Antonio and Lisa is spontaneous and exhilarating for both the heart and the overactive imagination. It will surely make the reader’s mouth go dry. Adele Dubois has written an imaginative story of lust turning into love. Her “bad guys” are as cold hearted and worthless as in real life. The heat from this novel will leave you with the feeling of seductive, cozy bliss. Read Motorcycle Heat and feel the lust whip your hair back on this wild ride.
