When Erica Peck, one terrified-of-the-ocean marina owner, finds herself at the bottom of the sea conversing with a merman named Reel, she thinks she’s died and gone to her own version of Hell. When the Oceanic Council demands she and Reel retrieve a lost cache of diamonds from the resident sea monster in return for their lives, she knows she’s died and gone to Hell.

When they escape the monster and end up on a deserted island, she amends her opinion - she’s died and gone to Heaven.

But when Reel sacrifices himself to allow her to return to her world, she realizes that, Heaven or Hell, with Reel, she’s In Over Her Head.

Many of you may recognize my name from the recent American Title contest or the original Gather.com/Simon & Schuster First Chapters Contest. My manuscript, Beauty and The Best, was a finalist in each of these contests - the ONLY Romance in the Top 20 of the Gather.com contest (out of over 2,600 entries from all genres of fiction).

August is the month of the Corn Moon. Some cultures celebrate the protection of the Moon Goddess of Immortality at this time and believe that those born during the full moon will live a life of abundance, harmony, and good fortune. To be “moon struck” or “moon touched” in ancient times meant you were chosen by the goddess.

The Earth’s moon, Luna, also inspires romance. Couples throughout the world plan outings on the night of the full moon and spread blankets beneath the moon glow on mountaintops or park lawns to hold hands and watch the sky. The Moon and Sun align and the Earth feels their pull as their tidal forces combine. During a rare Blue Moon the full moon appears twice in the same month.

This August brings the rarest moon of all and a beautiful event; a Red Moon. After midnight Tuesday, August 28, 2007 a lunar eclipse will occur over the entire Earth. The full Moon, at the opposite end of the sky from the Sun, will pass through the Earth’s shadow, temporarily going dark. You may see stars in the sky not generally visible during a typical full moon as the total eclipse takes place. Suddenly, before dawn, all the sunsets happening around the world will focus on the Moon and turn it crimson.

Wake early Tuesday morning, bring a blanket to a mountaintop, and watch a fantastic event with the one you love under the Red August Moon.

Here’s the timetable for central and western U.S. and Canada. Easterners can watch the Moon sliding into eclipse while dawn is brightening and the Moon is dropping low in the west. Details: partial eclipse begins at 3:51 a.m. CDT, total eclipse begins at 4:52, totality ends at 6:23, and partial eclipse ends at 7:24. (Time References: Stardate.org)

Lisa has come to Annapolis to dump her cheating boyfriend before he graduates from the Naval Academy.  Sad and ready to start her life again, she flirts with a gorgeous man on a motorcycle.  Antonio is riding to his brother’s graduation when he spots a gorgeous woman.  When she quickly flashes him, Antonio loses control of the bike and lands near her feet.  Unfortunately, a sexy tryst is caught on video and their lives quickly change.  The affair may end before they have a chance to develop their feelings for each other.

A rebound romance with no “let’s be friends” attempted, Motorcycle Heat is super hot and a fun and exciting action story.  The hurt and anger Lisa feels is so well written that her less-than-normal behavior is understood and I supported her all the way.  Antonio’s falling for Lisa has enough details and background that it makes him empathetic, not to mention extremely sexy.  The support characters are well developed and blend into the plot well.  A sequel should be coming and I can’t wait.  The sex is wonderful and creative.  While some scenes were shocking, nothing was gratuitous and every act helped build the story.  It was loving when needed and slamming hot at the appropriate time.  The use of racial slurs or descriptions, from both the good guys and bad guys, demonstrated real emotions, both good and bad.  Overall, Motorcycle Heat is an outstanding first book. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Dubois in the future.
