Our priorities change abruptly when tragedy strikes our nation. I’ve hugged my kids a little tighter the past few days and worked less. My thoughts keep turning to Virginia and the grieving families there.

I’m pleased to announce that my paranormal erotic romance novella (manuscript) DREAM TRAVELER has finaled in the Stroke of Midnight writing competition, sponsored by Passionate Ink, a special interest chapter of Romance Writers of America. DREAM TRAVELER is about a mature heroine whose life turns upside down when her secret sexual fantasies and private erotic daydreams begin coming true.

I hopped inside my convertible and headed to the mountains for the Fire Up Your Fiction workshop, sponsored by the Pocono-Lehigh Romance Writers. The featured speaker was Debra Dixon, author of GMC–Goal, Motivation, & Conflict: The Building Blocks of Good Fiction. The workshop examined the three most important elements of fiction, and how GMC works effectively with The Hero’s Journey, developed by Joseph Campbell. Christopher Vogler later consolidated and simplified Campbell’s mythic elements in his book The Writer’s Journey.  I was delighted to meet Debra Dixon and hear first-hand about her methods, since I am familiar with her work and have studied her amazing book. Many thanks to the Pocono-Lehigh Romance Writers for the wonderful job they did organizing and hosting the event.  I highly recommend attending Debra’s intensive writing class when she visits your area.
